Scan During Replacement of End of Life Cisco Switches Delivers Savings
The Problem
A large UK customer and significant user of Cisco switches received notification that certain models of switches were approaching end of life and would be due for replacement. Cisco had provided a full listing of switches deployed and a proposal to cover their replacement.
The costs that would have been incurred had not been budgeted for and so management needed to verify the information and minimize, if possible, the unexpected costs.
The Solution
The Customer used iQSonar to provide a complete and independent inventory of Catalyst Switches.
The Results
The detailed inventory was completed in just 2 days. This information reported included such details as serial number, software version, location and whether the switch was in use.
Management used this inventory to complete a compatibility matrix that included details on all end of life hardware and other information such as version upgrades required. This was presented to Cisco.
The Benefits
In response to receiving this verifiable information from the customer, Cisco issued a revised proposal which resulted in 6-figure savings.
