VMWare have been leading the way in virtualization world for a decade. ESX is one of the most common Virtualization platforms in the world. vCenter (and it’s older equivalent Virtual Center) are the management consoles for VMWare environments.

The Challenge
The challenge however comes when large corporations begin virtualizing significant numbers of servers. A single vCenter can manage up to 1,000 virtualized machines, when clustered across 20 machines it can handle up to 10,000 guests, but quickly accessing information on those machines can be difficult.

When older versions (Virtual Center) are being used, the number of guests to Virtual Centers is much lower – finding information on virtualized machines becomes even more difficult. When the numbers of machines being virtualized moves into the multiple-thousands, the difficulty compounds.

• Which physical hardware has most capacity for new guest images?
